The situation in Kyrgyzstan seems to have "calmed down" somewhat and yet there are far reaching consequences from the horrible violence over the past 2 weeks. Tens of thousands of Uzbek refugees are now suffering in Uzbekistan without their basic needs being met. Also, thousands of Kyrgyz, Uzbeks and Russians in Southern Kyrgyzstan have lost everything, including homes, possessions and their means of livelihood. They are in desperate need of help! The UN is calling this situation a "humanitarian crisis".
Please continue to pray as well for peace in the region. The violence may have subsided but there is still deep rooted animosity and things could erupt again at any time. Pray for the government of Kyrgyzstan take control over this situation. Pray for corruption to cease. Pray as well for pastors who are still in hiding in the south. One Kyrgyz pastor was beaten badly and is in the hospital in Bishkek. One Ukrainian "worker" who was living in Kyrgyzstan is missing and his family does not know if he is alive. Please cover all of these situations in your prayers and continue to pray for God to use these horrible atrocities to open the hearts of people and draw them unto Himself.

PS The attaching here an update sent to us by people who are in Kyrgyzstan and close to the situation:
The situation in Osh has been somewhat calmer the last couple of days with more people being seen on the roads (but virtually no Uzbeks). Many Uzbeks believe / fear that this is just a lull before a new attack on the Uzbek neighborhoods by people coming from outside the city. Lies and exaggerated stories are part of the situation. Pray:
- · That the situation in Osh continues to calm down, that if there are forces trying to organize new attacks on the Uzbek neighborhoods these are confused and restrained.
- · That false rumors / lies come to an end, especially where these are consciously perpetrated by outside forces.
Most of the Uzbeks who haven’t already fled to neighboring Uzbekistan (or are waiting to cross at the border) live in fortified neighborhoods which now have arms. There is urgent need of food and medical care. Kyrgyz villages surrounding Osh are also finding themselves without food as the infrastructure is breaking down and they can’t sell or buy produce in the bazaars. Pray:
- · That humanitarian aid in large quantities can be transported to Osh and distributed to the most needy areas (many of the workers evacuated from there are involved with this.
- · That despair, desire for revenge and bitterness will be restrained in the armed Uzbek neighborhoods.
We understand that the Kyrgyz church in Osh is divided. Many are doing all they can to help Uzbek believers and other Uzbeks in need. Others are not willing to reach out or even intercede for the situation. Please pray for:
